Premier Sports Cup – Group F
Tuesday 21 July 2026
Bayview Stadium
Kick-off: 7.45pm

Preview by Oli Anderson

East Fife return to Bayview this evening looking to build on an encouraging start to their Premier Sports Cup campaign as they welcome Lowland League champions Linlithgow Rose. After a stoppage-time equaliser denied the Fifers all three points in Inverness before a penalty shootout defeat, Dick Campbell’s side bounced back in style with a deserved 2-0 victory over Championship outfit Greenock Morton last Tuesday night.

With one group fixture remaining away to St Johnstone this weekend, tonight’s encounter represents another important opportunity to strengthen East Fife’s hopes of reaching the knockout stages. Every point remains crucial with only the eight group winners and three best runners-up progressing.

The Story So Far

East Fife have made an impressive start to life in Group F. The campaign began with a frustrating afternoon in Inverness, where the Fifers looked set to claim all three points before conceding a stoppage-time equaliser. Although Inverness claimed the bonus point after a penalty shootout, Dick Campbell’s side could take enormous encouragement from an excellent display against Championship opposition.

Any disappointment from the Highlands was quickly put behind them on Tuesday night. Bayview witnessed one of East Fife’s finest performances in recent years as Tom Milne and Austin scored in a superb 2-0 victory over Greenock Morton. It was a result that underlined the progress being made under Dick Campbell and leaves the Fifers firmly in contention heading into the final two group fixtures. With St Johnstone still to come on Saturday, another positive result tonight would leave East Fife with every chance of reaching the second round.

The Opposition

Linlithgow Rose arrive in Methil as one of Scotland’s leading non-league clubs, having earned their place in this season’s Premier Sports Cup after lifting the Lowland League title. The Rose have enjoyed a remarkable rise in recent seasons and continue to establish themselves as one of the strongest sides outside the SPFL.

While many supporters may see tonight as an opportunity for East Fife, Linlithgow have already shown they are capable of competing at this level. Their squad is packed with experienced players who know how to manage difficult cup ties, and they will be determined to cause an upset at Bayview before turning their attention back to defending their Lowland League crown. After defeat to Inverness at the weekend, the visitors will be eager to end their group campaign on a high.

One to Watch

Linlithgow Rose – Louis Maguire

The experienced defender recently committed his future to the Rose and remains one of the club’s key figures. Strong in the air, composed on the ball and a natural organiser, Maguire will be central to Linlithgow’s hopes of frustrating East Fife’s attack. If the Fifers can find a way past their captain, they’ll give themselves every chance of securing another valuable three points.

Key Battle

East Fife’s attacking movement vs Linlithgow’s disciplined defence

The Fifers created plenty of opportunities against both Inverness and Morton, and they’ll look to carry that momentum into tonight’s contest. Linlithgow pride themselves on defensive organisation and will attempt to stay compact throughout. If East Fife can move the ball quickly and stretch the visitors’ back line, they’ll create the openings needed to continue their encouraging start to the competition.

Did You Know?

Tonight marks the first-ever competitive meeting between East Fife and Linlithgow Rose. While the Rose have become regular challengers at the top of the Lowland League, this is the first opportunity for the two clubs to meet in a competitive fixture, thanks to Linlithgow’s qualification for this season’s Premier Sports Cup.

Prediction

Confidence around Bayview is growing after Tuesday night’s outstanding victory over Greenock Morton. East Fife have already shown they can match, and beat, full-time opposition, and Dick Campbell will be expecting another professional display against a dangerous Linlithgow Rose side. The visitors will make life difficult, but if the Fifers perform with the same intensity and organisation shown in their opening two matches, there is every reason to believe they’ll head to Perth on Saturday with another three points on the board.

Mon the Fife!
