The Story So Far
East Fife return to Bayview this afternoon as they welcome high-flying Ross County to Methil for another tough William Hill League 1 encounter.
The Fifers have collected six points from their opening five league matches, with last weekend’s goalless draw away to Airdrieonians following another 0-0 against league leaders Hamilton Academical at Bayview. Dick Campbell’s side have now kept four clean sheets in their opening five league games, with the 2-1 defeat at Peterhead the only occasion they have conceded.
Goals have been harder to come by, but East Fife have shown themselves to be a difficult side to break down. Their 2-0 victory over Cove Rangers remains their sole league win so far, while draws against Alloa, Hamilton and Airdrie have helped provide a steady start to the campaign.
Sitting sixth in the early table, the Fifers now face a Ross County side who have made a formidable start to life in League 1.
The Opposition
oss County arrive in Methil with a perfect league record, having taken 12 points from their opening four matches.
The Staggies began their campaign with a 1-0 victory away to Peterhead before defeating Montrose 2-1. A 3-1 success away to Airdrieonians followed before County produced arguably their most impressive league performance so far last weekend, sweeping East Kilbride aside 4-0 in Dingwall.
They also remain in excellent form across the cup competitions. County defeated Elgin City 2-1 in the KDM Evolution Trophy before recording the same scoreline away to Championship side Dunfermline Athletic in the Premier Sports Cup. They followed that with a convincing 4-0 victory over Banks O’ Dee.
That run means County arrive at Bayview having won each of their last six matches in all competitions and sitting just one point behind Hamilton with a game in hand.
There can be little doubt that they represent one of East Fife’s biggest tests of the season so far.
One to Watch
Ross County – Brian Graham
Veteran striker Brian Graham has wasted little time making an impact since returning to Ross County for a third spell this summer.
The experienced forward returned to Dingwall after spells with Partick Thistle and Falkirk and brings a proven goalscoring record to the Staggies’ attack. During his time with Partick alone, Graham scored 100 goals in 207 appearances.
He demonstrated that threat again last weekend, scoring twice in County’s 4-0 victory over East Kilbride.
East Fife’s defence has been excellent in League 1 so far, but keeping Graham quiet will be one of their biggest challenges this afternoon.
Key Battle
East Fife’s defence vs Ross County’s attack
East Fife have kept clean sheets in four of their opening five league fixtures, including back-to-back shutouts against Hamilton and Airdrieonians. Ross County, meanwhile, arrive having scored ten goals in their four League 1 matches.
Campbell’s side will need to maintain the organisation and discipline shown in recent weeks, particularly against a County attack containing plenty of experience and quality.
If the Fifers can frustrate the visitors and remain in the contest for long periods, opportunities to cause problems at the other end should follow.

Did You Know?
Meetings between East Fife and Ross County have been relatively rare in recent years.
One of the most significant recent encounters came in the semi-final of the 2018/19 Challenge Cup, when Ross County recorded a 2-1 victory in Dingwall on their way to lifting the trophy.
The sides also met in the Premier Sports Cup in July 2022, while their first recorded meeting dates back to December 1970, when East Fife ran out 4-1 winners.
Today therefore provides a relatively uncommon opportunity to see the Staggies at Bayview and a first league meeting between the sides in many years.
Prediction
Ross County arrive at Bayview in outstanding form and will provide another major test for Dick Campbell’s side.
East Fife, though, have proven extremely difficult to break down and come into the game on the back of consecutive league clean sheets.
If the Fifers can maintain that defensive organisation while offering more of a threat going forward, there is every chance of making life difficult for the Staggies and taking something from the afternoon.
