The Story So Far
East Fife return to William Hill League 1 action this afternoon as Dick Campbell’s side make the trip to Dumfries to face Queen of the South at Palmerston Park.
The Fifers head south in good spirits following an emphatic 4-1 victory over Clyde in the KDM Evolution Trophy on Tuesday night. Ewan McLeod grabbed a double as East Fife secured their first victory of the league phase and provided the perfect response to their difficult start in the competition.
In the league, East Fife have proven a difficult side to beat during the opening weeks of the campaign. Draws against Hamilton Academical, Airdrieonians and Ross County have helped the Fifers collect seven points from their opening six matches, leaving Campbell’s men fifth in the table heading into this weekend.
Turning those draws into victories will now be the aim, and after four goals in midweek, the Fifers will hope to carry some of that attacking confidence into today’s encounter.
The Opposition
Queen of the South have endured a difficult opening to their League 1 campaign but arrive at this afternoon’s fixture having picked up a much-needed victory last weekend.
The Doonhamers came from behind to defeat Airdrieonians 2-1 at Palmerston, bringing an end to a run of four consecutive league defeats and moving them off the bottom of the table. They currently have three points from five matches, with a game in hand on the Fifers.
Nicky Clark’s side were also in action on Tuesday evening, drawing 1-1 away to Edinburgh City in the KDM Evolution Trophy.
Despite their difficult opening weeks, Queens have plenty of quality within their squad and will hope that last weekend’s victory can prove a turning point. With home advantage behind them, East Fife can expect another difficult afternoon at Palmerston.
One to Watch
Queen of the South – Jack Stott
Stott has already shown his attacking threat during the early stages of the campaign and will be one of the players East Fife need to keep quiet this afternoon. Capable of causing problems in and around the penalty area, restricting his opportunities could be crucial to the Fifers’ hopes of returning from Dumfries with all three points.
Key Battle
East Fife’s midfield vs Queen of the South’s intensity
Queen’s boss Nicky Clark has challenged his side to match East Fife physically before imposing their own style on the contest. That could make the battle in the middle of the park particularly important. If the Fifers can win their individual battles and establish themselves in midfield, it should provide a platform to take control of proceedings.

The Fifers took four points from their four league meetings with Queen of the South last season. East Fife recorded a 2-1 victory at Bayview in September before the sides played out a 2-2 draw at Palmerston in March.

Prediction
Queen’s will be buoyed by last weekend’s first league victory, but East Fife arrive at Palmerston after an excellent 4-1 win in midweek. If the Fifers can carry that attacking threat into today’s game while maintaining the defensive resilience they have shown in the league, there is every reason to fancy a positive result in Dumfries.
