East Fife’s Assistant Manager Ian Campbell hailed his side’s victory over Queen of the South as “absolutely tremendous”, as the Fifers toppled the former league leaders 2-1 on Saturday. It saw the Methil Milan extend our unbeaten run to seven games in all competitions following the win at the MGM Timber Bayview Stadium. Tommy Goss grabbed his first East Fife league goal to open the scoring, while Nathan Austin netted the winner at the start of the second half.

We were without our usual centre half pairing of Brian Easton and Andy Munro though replacements Mamadou Bah and Connor McManus were more than up for the task.

East Fife’s opening goal came after 25 minutes, when Lewis Latona unleashed Michael McKenna down the right-hand side. McKenna floated the ball into the back post, where Tommy Goss arrived to nod home for a one goal lead.

Right before the half time whistle, Peter Murphy’s men equalised when Reece Lyon answered a tidy cross himself. He left Adams rooted to the goal line, sending the sides in level at the break.

However, Dick Campbell’s team talk was clearly effective, as Nathan Austin capitalised on a defensive shocker right after the restart. He nicked the loose ball away from the centre half and lobbed the goalie from close range.

The second half died down for large spells, with the game played largely in the middle of the park, however approaching the final whistle, Queen of the South ramped up the tempo and played on the front foot.

There were loose shouts for a Queens penalty with just ten minutes to go, although replays have since shown that the referee made the correct decision in ignoring the claims.

That was the last action of the game, and the victory leaves East Fife one point behind league leaders Stenhousemuir in what has been a great start to the season.

At full time, Ian Campbell was full of praise for his side: “It was a good game between two good games, and we are so chuffed with the way we played today, just magnificent!”

In their club’s match report. Queen of the South described the afternoon as lacklustre, stating that throughout the game: “Queens never got going and couldn’t recover from the mountain they gave themselves to climb right at the start of the second half.”

Saturday sees East Fife host Montrose at the MGM Timber Bayview Stadium, while Queen of the South host Inverness Caley Thistle at Palmerston Park.

Reporter’s Man of the Match: Tommy Goss

It feels harsh not giving this to Sam Culbert, but Tommy Goss scoring against his first ever professional side is too good to ignore. Peter Murphy said post-match that he and the Queen of the South squad “knew Goss would be up for it today”, and that was most certainly the case.
