East Fife slumped to a 3-0 loss at Palmerston Park last Saturday as Queen of the South ran out comfortable victors.

The Fifers had the first chance of the game, and it was one of the best for both teams. Nathan Austin broke through 1-on-1 with Ross Stewart, though he couldn’t sort his feet out, and his right footed effort was easily saved.

From there on out, things fell apart for the Fifers. Guthrie broke in behind, though his heavy touch looked as if it would be cleared. It unfortunately fell for Liam Smith on the penalty spot who made no mistakes with his half volley.

Less than two minutes later, it was 2-0. Smith received the ball on the right-hand side and worked it into a crossing position. His delivery was of pinpoint accuracy for Stott to attack, and his finish was once again too easy, and East Fife had given themselves a mountain to climb after just eight minutes of play.

Queen of the South had more chances to extend their lead in the first half, as their pace and power was causing our defence all sorts of bother, however, Ruairidh Adams was equal to the shots, keeping the scoreline respectable.

Jack Hannah was colossal at the back, and made two crucial challenges in 30 seconds, denying first Lewis Latona, and then Michael McKenna.

The Fifers had a shot glance past the post just before half time, which further halted any small momentum.

In the second half, East Fife started the first five minutes brightly, and it looked as if we would see a reaction from the squad after the interval. However, Queen of the South had other ideas, and put the game out of sight when Kurtis Guthrie headed home for the Dumfriesshire side.

Kieran Millar had the only chance of second half for the Fifers, as he had a headed chance from six yards out. Unfortunately, there was not enough power on it and Stewart easily gathered.
