East Fife
How long have you been an East Fife supporter and what was your first game?
My Dad took me and my brothers along as a 5-year-old in January ’71 v Montrose. I don’t remember much about it but I’ve since found out we won 3-1. I remember more about my second game v Hamilton; their ‘keeper was sent off so an outfield player had to go in goals – we hammered them 5-0!
Most memorable moment following East Fife?
Winning the Third Division Championship at East Stirling in 2008.
Least favourite moment following East Fife?
Any relegation but mostly the play-off defeat, and subsequent relegation, against Stirling Albion in 2014.
Favourite player (present)?
Kyle Wilkie.
Favourite player (all-time)?
Billy McPhee was my hero from that age. He could hit a ball and was well known for his 30-yard rocket free kicks. I have more than a dozen programmes with McPhee free kicks on the front cover with the opposition ‘keeper in mid-air with no chance!
Best East Fife goal you’ve seen?
Billy McPhee’s free kick against Hibs on New Year’s Day 1972. It was at the Bayview Bar end and he smashed it passed Jim Herriot in a game we won 2-1.
Favourite Goal Celebration?
When Kenny Deuchar scored with the last kick of the game v and sealing promotion v Queen’s Park in 2003.
