East Fife

How long have you been an East Fife supporter and what was your first game?

All my life. Can’t remember my first game. My Grandad used to take us in his Morris Minor with the funny little “arm indicators”. The first game I do remember was Leighton James’ masterclass when Burnley came to visit in the Texaco Cup. I’m sure it finished 3-2 to them but could have been a lot more! James was like a young Gareth Bale at the time

Most memorable moment following East Fife?

Wow there are loads! The win against the Rovers after Robin Thomson’s cracker, the Hibs win, the Aberdeen win (but I missed both games) but the best one witnessed has to be the Deuchar season and the late winner against Queen’s Park. I’m pretty sure Kenny scored the very first and very last League goals of all clubs that season. If I remember correctly, he scored in the first couple of minutes in the first League match v Peterhead.

For comic value though, it has to be a game against Hearts at Old Bayview. Heart had about 2000 fans on the other side of the segregation fence and one of our well-known supporters runs up to the fence, grabs on and shouts “come on then let’s have a go!”. Luckily the Hearts fans just laughed. Another one was a game at Brockville when another “character” and his buddy were goading the home support behind the safety of the segregation but unbeknownst to them the stewards opened the gates at half time to let the home fans down to the other end. Bit sheepish as 1000 Falkirk fans trooped past.

Least favourite moment following East Fife?

The gut-wrenching equaliser against Dundee United in the 999th minute. Don McVicar, now there’s a name to go down in East Fife folklore!

Favourite player (present)?

Sam would never forgive me if I said anything other than Chris Duggan

Favourite player (all-time)?

Billy McPhee, can’t remember games back then but still remember his thunderbolts!

Best East Fife goal you’ve seen?

Robin Thomson v Raith Rovers

Favourite Goal Celebration?

Anyone, I don’t care! I’m usually jumping about like a dafty and don’t see the players anyway.

When do you think Scotland will next qualify for a major tournament?

As this goes to print after the Slovakia/Slovenia games I better not put what I hope for just now!

Ronaldo or Messi?

Messi

Favourite away ground?

Probably have to say Gayfield as it’s one of my first recollections of watching East Fife. The only game I’ve ever seen a monkey at! Honestly, a real monkey on a guy’s shoulders!

If you could change one football rule what would it be?

My bugbear for years is the unwritten rule that defenders can commit GBH in order to shield the ball out for a by-kick. Any other area of the park and it would be a foul and a possible booking but anywhere near the goal line and it’s “Ok son, goal kick!!!” Meanwhile the striker is lying on the ground with a dislocated shoulder and 2 teeth missing!
