Jess Norey Update

Everyone at East Fife FC sends their very best wishes to midfielder Jess Norey, who will miss the rest of this season after being diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism.

Jess felt unwell after last Tuesday night’s match against Hamilton Accies, and attended hospital in Kirkcaldy that night where it was thought he had passed a kidney stone. But he had to return to hospital later in the week when he suffered severe discomfort after training on Thursday night, and a CT scan revealed a blood clot in his lungs.

The 24-year-old has been put on blood-thinning medication for the next six months to disperse the clot and is unable to take part in contact sports while there is a continued risk from this serious condition. He has now returned to the family home in London to rest and recuperate.

The out-of-the-blue diagnosis comes just as Jess had returned to fitness following ten weeks on the sidelines with a foot injury, during what is his second season with East Fife. His first start back in the team was against Cove Rangers on 14 February, and an outstanding performance in the 2-1 win earned him a place in the SPFL Team of the Week.

“The doctors asked me if I had recently suffered any injuries or trauma in my leg,” said Jess. “It is possible that having to wear a moon boot for several weeks because of my injury has restricted circulation, causing a blood clot in my leg which travelled up to the lung.

“It is frustrating because I has just got back in the team and I felt that I had done well in the match against Cove, but now I am out again.”

Get well soon, Jess.
