Elgin City 2-3 East Fife – Match Report by Oli Anderson
🏆KDM Evolution Trophy
📍Borough Briggs
🗓️Tuesday 16th December 2025 | Kick-off: 7:45pm
East Fife made hard work of their last 32 tie in the KDM Evolution Cup on Tuesday evening. Goals from Nathan Austin, Reis Peggie and Michael McKenna was enough to see us sneak through 3-2, as a late fight back from City panicked the Methil Milan.
Fash had a chance after just three minutes, but the Elgin goalkeeper made a strong diving save to deny Austin. His second attempt five minutes later bred better results however, as East Fife’s number 9 latched onto a loose header, bombed forward and fired home. Unfortunately, Fash injured himself in the process and was replaced by Liam Newton shortly after the restart.
The remainder of the first half saw Gregor Nicol denied by the goalkeeper, as well as Michael McKenna have an effort clear the bar.
The second half had the game kick into life, with four goals all coming after the hour mark. Both teams scored twice, and the two East Fife goals came within three minutes of each other and were both from set pieces. Reis Peggie scored first, stabbing the ball into the back of the net following a Michael McKenna corner kick. Moments later, McKenna himself scored from the penalty spot, putting his miss in Montrose behind him, with a beautifully placed strike.
From here on out however, Elgin threw everything they had at East Fife and almost made us pay.
Firstly, Russell Dingwall scored a penalty of his own, which was granted following a defensive blunder. Matty Rollo guessed correctly but couldn’t keep the experienced forward out.
Five minutes later, Oliver Colloty scored Elgin’s second of the evening. A quick breakaway saw him in space, and he slotted the ball through Rollo’s legs and into the back of the net.
As we approached the final whistle. Rollo produced a vital, match winning save to keep East Fife ahead right at the death. East Fife from there managed to see the game out, and after a frantic finish, booked us a spot in the last 16.
We will visit Gayfield Park in the next round to play Arbroath. The Fifers will look to make amends following what was a disappointing showing when the sides met in the Scottish Cup earlier this season.
